Mercedes-Benz Cars (Middle East) is globally renowned as one of the most state-of-the-art, high class and professional automotive companies in the world. Much like their sleek vehicle interiors, the company’s real estate interior designs reflect the highest levels of creativity and sensitivity.
The client’s aim was to enhance the Daimler Mercedes-Benz Regional Training Centre with a built-to-suit facility which would equip the training organization with the most up-to-date, high class and professional training concepts, further strengthening the Group’s guarantee to deliver the highest possible qualification standards in the global retail organization.
The overall user experience sees the amalgamation of three existing facilities into one, where employees and visitors alike will enjoy a well-conceived and fully coordinated design solution.
Compass was engaged to act as the Client Representative, along with managing the design process, providing cost management services as well as coordination and supervision of the fit-out of the new facility. Specific emphasis was placed on the desire to operate a more holistic approach in the flow and ways of working within the business, as well as the drive to operate a building more efficiently, ultimately optimizing intelligent effectiveness.
The new facility will serve the Middle East region and will provide training across all of Daimler’s brands and operations, increasing the man training days from 10,000 to 40,000 by 2027. Steered by the User Design Manual established by Daimler Global Training and Daimler Real Estate, the Project Team had to ensure these global expertise and expectations were adapted to the local business needs.
To meet these exacting standards, Compass oversaw the development of a concept for 2 sites, including presenting the feasibility of each, and ultimately make recommendations upon which successful design would be further developed and brought to life.
One of the challenges incurred during the project was the collaborative value engineering exercise and procurement process
to find materials and finishes which satisfied the industrial use of the facility but also fulfilled the educational purpose of its intended users. Design development began in August 2017. Construction commenced onsite during April 2018 and was completed in July 2018.
The Training Center Entrance Hall is vital to ensuring guests and employees are given the right first impression as they enter the Mercedes-Benz world. The multi-function space in the first instance, serves to welcome the training participants and secondly, as a placemaking delineator informing users on where to find the training rooms or canteen, allowing for adequate meeting space for participants to gather during breaks.
The Technical Training Facilities houses technology for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, which is understandably complex. With
evolving automotive engineering developments, the Mercedes-Benz employees need to be kept updated on the innovations and
automotive procedures.
The Soft Skill & Head Office Training Facilities encompass a spacious training room for Sales staff and is equipped with extensive media equipment to allow flexible learning in various sales and consultation environments. Mercedes-Benz is well-renowned for their management training course and their attending participants expect excellent equipment and unparalleled quality, applying state-of-the-art technology, acoustics and visuals.
Another core task the Project Team was tasked with was to support Mercedes-Benz Car (ME) and Daimler Real Estate in evaluating future locations with respect to a lease or Built-to-Suit Solution.
